Gourds at Meijer Gardens 2013

The weekend at Meijer Gardens was deemed a success!
We had lots of gourds on display to show of the many techniques that our members use and we also had gourds from different countries to help people visualize what people do in different parts of the world.
Attendance was not as high as in previous years but Meijers told us that was the case all the weekend for everyone.  People were just waiting to tourd Grand Rapids when Art Prize started up later on.
Usually we have demos scheduled every other hour, on the hour, in a classroom down the hall but we tried something new this year.  We had a demo table inside the show room and for gourd cleaning, drilling and other "messy" or "dusty" techniques we had space out on the patio right outside the show room.  Visitors could ask to see a technique that piqued their interest and one of our volunteers would show that right then and there - no need to have to wait for a scheduled time!  That seemed to go over well.
Also drawing attention was the childrens table where kids could come and make themselves a pin or necklace out of gourds.  Always a hit!
At the Annual Meeting we will have discussion on how to improve things and discuss what to do next year.
COME AND ADD YOUR IDEAS!
