Introducing Julie Glover who is one of the Founding Members of the Michigan Gourd Society.  Here is what she has to say about her experiences with gourds:
I have been growing gourds for approximately 18 years.  It had been so much fun sharing with friends and family supplying gourds for fall decorations.  I grew so many I stored them the first several years in a shed and garage. And, just kind of didn't know what to do with them after that besides making birdhouses after they were cured.   I learned of a group in Oceana County that were meeting and learning art techniques on cured gourds. That first group I went to was so much fun and the folks were so welcoming and caring.  My daughter had just gone off to college in 2006 and I needed to fill in the time I had spent in being a Mom. I had always gardened and that definitely was, and is, fulfilling.  After that first meeting my eyes were opened wide.  Gourd artisans are the most caring, nurturing individuals. They shared their world with me and have been patient with me as I learned and grew as a person.   I am humbled to participate on the Michigan Gourd Society board and want to represent what the members want out of this organization.
