Introducing Member Gourd Artist
CARRIE CERVANTES
Dimondale             Michigan

Picture
Carrie Cervantes lives in Dimondale, MI and has been gourding for many years now.  She enjoys trying all types of techniques on gourds.  Accomplishments include woodburning, wood burned leather tooling, Dremel carving, painting, ink and leather dyes, clay, inlay, pine needle and closed coiling, decoupage, top-stitching,  3-D embellishments, etc.  There is no chip carving included for this artist; "I like my blood in my body, thank you!"  There is a lot of holiday gourding with Santas and snowmen for the church Craft Show in November but Halloween gourding is a big interest as well.  Adding anters to gourds is a new fascination.

Some of Carrie's gourds end up in the garbage; others go online at Fine Arts of America or Facebook marketplace to sell and many are gifts.  People seem enthusiastic to receive them  :)   Attempted gourd farming has been going on for about three years but the cold State of Michigan makes it a challenge.  As this bio is written there are little plants in the living room under plastic in front of a window!  Photos of some favorite creations are included here and they have brought big smiles and comfort to the artist.  "Thank God for gourding!"

You can meet up with Carrie anywhere that gourds show up.  Recently Carrie entered the Powertex/Gourd Fusion Contest and won 2nd place.
You can check out the site at http://www.powertex.ca/contest-winners.html  and see all the winning entries, then go on over and click here to see the tutorial on how she created her winning gourd.
